Red, red door...

Here is some fun real estate and exterior design trivia about red doors.

  • In China and any place in the world those with front doors facing South can attract the powerful yang energy by painting their doors red. This is a Feng Shui principle.

  • In Ireland, those who want to avert evil spirits or ghosts simply paint their front door red.

  • Many Scottish commemorate paying off their mortgage by painting their door red.

  • With no internet around, the early America Airbnb-type homes painted their door red to let travelers know they would host them. I also read somewhere that during the civil war times, the safe homes that were part of the Underground Railroad painted their doors red.

Another interesting fact I heard a while back is that some churches paint their doors red to symbolize the blood of Jesus, others do so for protection. This seems to be based on the biblical passage were the Israelites painted their doors with the blood of the lamb so the Angel of Death would pass over their home and not kill their first son.

Sometimes painting your front door a different color or giving it a fresh coat of paint of the same color can dramatically change for the better the appearance of your home. Red, brown, orange, blue, green, yellow... Your front door, just like your home is always full of possibilities.
